This type of pounamu is called inanga, which was traditionally highly prized and among the most valuable types of greenstone. It also has what's known as a "flower" character to it, describing the patterns of lighter stone which are so prominent.
This is a larger piece, understated in design, a bold matau or fish hook. This is a recognisable symbol for abundance, and the ability to provide - whether that is financially, practically, or spiritually, so the whānau can thrive.
