a path carved by your tipuna
This piece of jasper was gathered on Kawa Beach at Aotea, Great Barrier Island. Its form spoke naturally to the shape of a toki, an adze, which a carver uses to carve whakapapa into wood.
With a beautifully textured grain, the next form that appeared was a koru, which also represents genealogical lines. And so, combined, this piece can be worn in reference to you standing today, representing your tīpuna or ancestors.
It is a form that has closely kept its orginal shape, formed by the waves. As such, it is solid and natural, and does not feel overly produced.
